Clean Shaven Roy!

Just in case you've ever wondered what I look like, I took these new pictures recently with the camera on my phone. I'd been keeping my moustach for quite a while, citing that I looked wierd without it, but recently I've been trying out a look without it. At first it was strange to look at myself in the mirror every morning and see my upper lip staring at me, but you eventually get used to it

I think you'll all agree I don't look half bad in these pics! (aside from my weird-shaped head, of course!)

I don't know how long I'll keep this look up (probably until I get bored of it), but at least I know it won't be the end of the world if I decide to shave it off again in future!

The Pain of Acceptance!

It's amazing the way thinks never seem to work out the way you think they will, isn't it?
Just to fill everyone in on what's been happening recently (and to help clarify my thoughts), I'm not quitting my job (yet).

The plan HAD been that I would quit my job at the end of June (giving my boss a month’s notice, and plenty of time to find another hapless chump to fill my shoes!). I didn’t really have anything planned beforehand, I was just looking forward to the time off to pursue my own interests.

Eventually, my boss found a new person. My job up until the end of my tour of duty, was to train her in all of the day to day activities I do for the company. She was good. Very good. I was very confident that she would be able to do my job to an acceptable level, while I slowly phased myself out as complete.

Then she turned round and said she didn’t want to do it any more. I was stunned. After she told the boss, he called me into his office to ask me to postpone my leaving until he could find someone else. Words can’t describe how I felt. It was a mixture of confusion, disappointment, anger and hopelessness.

It took me about two days to get over the shock of just how badly the situation had been dealt with. I felt as if my needs had once again taken second place to the needs of the company. My Line Manager told me I should be grateful that I was still needed so badly at the company, but all I could think of was: Does my opinion count for nothing?

Granted, I didn’t have anything solid planed before leaving, but I had given a WHOLE MONTHS notice that I wanted to quit. You would think they would take greater care in choosing someone that honestly WANTED the job, not strong-arm somebody that had no realisation of what they were getting into.

In hindsight, I should’ve seen it coming (this kind of thing happens all the time at this company), but my mind was already thinking about what I was going to do after I quit. I don’t blame the girl for not wanting to do the job, she was probably not completely informed of what the whole thing would entail (She’s a lot smarter than I was when I first joined the company!).

Anyway, after a considerable amount of thought, I agreed to stay on part-time. It may not be what my heart wanted, but it was the most logical decision to make to at least keep everyone happy. Sometimes you’ve just got to realise that the bigger decisions you make in life don’t just affect you, but others around you as well. At least now I have some more free time on my hands… >_>

Hideo Kojima at Oxford Circus!

I was giving it some considerable thought, but in the end I decided against going to meet the legendary Hideo Kojima at the Oxford Circus branch of HMV yesterday. I would've loved to have gone, but seeing as June is my last month at my job, and the fact that I wouldn't be paid for it. There was also the issue of having to spend the entire day just to get one autograph from him and Yoji Shinkawa. Here's hoping this is not the only opportunity to meet the legend I get in my lifetime!

And just to rub salt in the wound, some friends of my work collegue went to meet him, and brought back the signed game sleeve for me to look at! Bastards! >_<
